Digital Literacy Supports
VPL is committed to offering a range of programs, resources and lifelong learning opportunities so that Vancouverites can build the new skills and literacies they need to succeed in the 21st century. This includes digital literacy, which is the ability to use technology to access, evaluate, and create media in a variety of formats. Children’s and Teen Services requires materials (software and hardware) to support new and existing, system-wide digital literacy programs for children and teens. We currently use tools such as iPads, Raspberry Pi microcomputers and Bloxels in our digital literacy programs. However, technology changes quickly and although these tools have served us well, we are now faced with obsolete software and expensive updates. For these reasons and more, we are looking to improve our range of programs with the addition of new programming software and hardware such as Sphero Littlebits, Hexbugs and the Makey Makey Invention Kit.
This initiative is part of our Digital Library expansion campaign.
