Accessible Services

Senior Library Programs, Resources, And Services

Accessible Services delivers reading and listening materials in a variety of formats to elderly or disabled patrons at their home or care facility. Our library is dedicated to ensuring that older adults, senior patrons, and anyone in the community experiencing visual, mobility, or cognitive impairment can fully access the programs and services they need. Through a wide range of accessible collections, including large print and alternative print formats, public libraries create meaningful opportunities for lifelong literacy and connection. Whether you choose to visit the library in person or access a tailored library service from home, every patron is welcome. With thoughtful programming, specialized resource support, and inclusive space design, the library works to remove any transportation or physical barrier that may stand in the way of participation.

Additionally, programs like Teens and Seniors Technology Experience (TASTE) have brought members of the VPL’s Teen Advisory Groups to seniors’ facilities to share stories and explore new technology together. These services extend to caregiver support, outreach visits to retirement communities and care facility locations, and adaptive tools such as accessibility kit resources that help patrons navigate daily challenges associated with aging, dementia, or other conditions affecting ability. By focusing on accessibility, dignity, and inclusion, our library provides a safe, supportive environment where everyone can engage, learn, and thrive within their community.
