Mother Goose is a referral-based program that brings families with young children together for an enriched early literacy experience over a series of sessions. This program focuses on the power of sharing rhymes, songs, and stories – promoting oral literacy and strengthening bonds between parents and their children. VPL staff facilitate Mother Goose with community partners from public health units, community centres, and neighbhourhood houses. Registration is by referral to ensure there are spaces for families that need the program the most.
Program participants have reported that they have become more comfortable and confident in using songs and rhymes with their babies and toddlers as a result of their participation in Mother Goose. Additionally, Mother Goose leaders have developed trusting relationships with program participants, and have offered information on relevant community resources whenever possible.
