Gifts of Securities

Charitable gifts do not need to be cash based. An increasingly popular alternative is gifting publicly traded securities such as stocks, bonds, or mutual funds. These gifts can be any size, given immediately, or left to Vancouver Public Library Foundation in your will.

Please consider a gift of stocks or securities in support of the Vancouver Public Library Foundation. You will receive a tax receipt for the closing value of the shares on the day they are received into Vancouver Public Library Foundation’s brokerage account.

How to make a gift of stocks or securities:

  1. Determine with your financial advisor which investments will make the most philanthropic and financial impact.
  2. Complete our Securities Gift Form and then give it to your broker or financial advisor to complete the transaction.
  3. Contact us to let us know you have made your gift. Call or email Ann at:

Choosing to leave a gift to VPLF in your Will is an opportunity to enrich people’s lives, make a contribution to the future, and leave a lasting memory.

Legacy gifts allow you to take full advantage of tax considerations and minimize the impact on your family’s security and lifestyle, while maximizing the impact of your philanthropy.

Gifts of Life Insurance

A gift of life insurance is an easy and affordable way to transform small premium payments or an existing life insurance policy into a significant gift to benefit Vancouver Public Library Foundation. The insurance benefit will eventually be paid directly to VPL Foundation and is separate from your Estate, so there are no administrative costs or probate fees, and your gift has no effect on your Estate’s assets.

Making a donation is a wonderful way of paying tribute to a family member or friend, mentor or colleague. Your gift honours their influence and legacy in your life while supporting current and future programs, collections and services at Vancouver’s public libraries.

To make an in honour or memorial gift, simply indicate so on the online donation form, or include a note with your cheque. Please also let us know the name of the person you would like to pay tribute to.

Please contact Casey Dela Cruz at 604-331-4110 or casey.delacruz@vplf.ca to find out more.

Host a fundraiser

Plan an event to benefit the Vancouver Public Library! Whether you are organizing a golf tournament, a birthday party or a book sale, inviting guests to bring a donation in place of a gift is an easy way to help us build an informed, engaged and connected city. Or, consider donating partial proceeds of retail sales to support a VPL initiative. To learn more, contact Casey Dela Cruz 604-331-4110 or casey.delacruz@vplf.ca

Many companies encourage employees to contribute to charities by offering a matching gift program. This means the company will donate funds equal to your contribution to the Library, effectively doubling your gift! Check with your employer to see if they offer a charitable gift-matching program.
