Jean’s Story
Jean is 74. When her husband passed away and her children were grown, she found herself at a crossroads.
She decided to do something about it. She moved downtown, within easy walking distance of Central Library. And that library became the centre of her life.
She learns the latest apps so she can video call her kids without asking anyone for help. She meets friends for coffee under those soaring ceilings. She reads, learns, and stays connected to a world that keeps changing.
And when her grandchildren visit, the library is where they go. They play games, pick out books, and stop for a cookie on the way home. Then they curl up together and read through their haul.
Jean says her library helps her feel capable. Curious. Connected. That is what she means when she calls it her fountain of youth.
Why it Matters
The poverty rate among BC seniors now exceeds every other age group in our province. Half live on less than $35,000 a year in one of the most expensive cities in the world.
Tight budget or not, your library offers every senior the stuff of joy.
Enrichment. Inspiration. Connection.
Nourishment for the mind is not a luxury. Your gift makes sure every senior can access it freely.
