Why this matters
For many families, the library is the only place where children aged 0–5 can access free, high quality early learning experiences before they enter school. As families turn to their library in growing numbers, we need to create more spaces that meet that need.
One in three BC children enters kindergarten developmentally behind in one or more areas critical to their future success. The library reaches this group with zero barriers, across every background and experience, before school ever begins.
Last year, VPL’s early years programs reached over 140,000 children and caregivers, and there are still many waiting to be reached.
