Programs and Collections for Children and Youth

Alligator Pie

The Alligator Pie Program provides valuable early literacy support from VPL librarians to daycare centres serving vulnerable children and families.

Language Fun Storytimes

Language Fun Storytimes were developed in collaboration with Vancouver Coastal Health’s Speech and Language Pathologists. These programs provide opportunities for children with speech/language delays to learn and practice sounds, words, phrases and their social skills in an engaging learning environment alongside their peers and parents/caregivers.

Mother Goose

Mother Goose is a referral-based program that brings families with young children together for an enriched early literacy experience over a series of sessions.

Sensory Storytimes

Sensory Storytimes are small-group programs designed to create a welcoming environment for children who may not yet thrive in traditional library storytime settings. They provide early literacy experiences for children who have developmental disabilities, atypical sensory processing and/or other conditions.

Man in the Moon

VPL’s Man in the Moon program provides opportunities for fathers and caregivers who are men and non-binary to learn ways to support early literacy and language development in their children through playing, singing, talking and reading together.

Youth Digital Collections

The demand from young people for engaging materials that they can access from anywhere, at anytime continues increase dramatically.
